Illinois Housing Development Authority has announced the 2021 Illinois Rental Payment Program is offering another round of grants. ILRPP is an emergency rental assistance program designed to support Illinois tenants struggling to pay rent due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The funds are provided by the Federal government. Grant applications will be accepted starting on May 17, 2021.
MF Cashflow Team / Kambri Realty will be assisting qualified tenants with the application process. Required documentation from both the landlord/property manager and tenant must be provided to complete the application process.
The grants will cover up to 15 months of rental assistance, from May 2020 until Sept 2021.
There is a maximum grant amount of $25,000.
Tenants must meet several qualifications to be awarded grant funds.
Behind in the rent for at least 30 days.
Live in Illinois and the rental home is a primary residence.
Total gross income not to exceed 80% of the Area Median Income for their location.
Must have experienced financial hardship directly or indirectly related to the pandemic.
Examples:
Being laid off
Place of employment has closed
Reduction in hours of work
Loss of spousal/child support
Inability to find work due to Covid-19
Need to stay home with children due to school/day care closure
Unable to go to a work due to the workplace’s high risk of severe illness from Covid-19
Grant funds awarded will be sent directly to the landlord or property manager to cover the rent payments.
It is important to note that the qualified tenant must cooperate with the application process by providing required documentation and signing the application to receive the funds.
